Ecotecture, Inc. offers comprehensive site planning and land design for commercial structures, real estate developers, and high-end residential projects. Our design philosophy is one that incorporates as much local environmental and ecological influence as possible: the site should blend with the surrounding landscape and supplement, rather than detract from it’s character.
Ecological architecture merges the interests of sustainability, environmental consciousness, and organic/natural/green methods to evolve a design solution from these requirements and from the characteristics of the site, neighborhood context, and local microclimate & topography. The application is naturally site-sensitive: the location of a building has a direct impact on its performance. Local ecology of the site, it’s gradient, orientation, and exposure provide specific requirements, while the regional climate offers a more general context for design. Design plans may include eco-sensitive structures such as vegetative roofs and walls, passive solar and thermal mass technologies, low-flow irrigation and reclamation systems, and small-scale wind turbine systems.
Ecological engineering is an emerging field whose intent is to wholly integrate human society and it’s structures with the surrounding environment. This includes the design, monitoring, and construction of sustainable ecosystems. Ecological engineering looks to ecological science and theory, and then adapts engineering design methods accordingly – essentially using nature’s designs and ecosystems to lessen manmade impacts, rather than compound the situation by incorporating complex mechanical “solutions.” These integrated ecosystems have benefit to both humans and the environment. Ecotecture, Inc. is spearheading the movement to bring this emerging science field to the forefront of Midwest land design and development.
